In last leg of GE15, Anwar storms BN strongholds in Perak

GE15 | With just a few days left before the 15th general election (GE15) reaches its finishing line, Pakatan Harapan is “storming” Perak in a bid to seize the state back from BN.

Yesterday, Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim held ceramah sessions in several BN strongholds, including Bagan Datuk which is held by its incumbent, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and received a rousing welcome in each location.

Anwar kicked off the blitz in Sungai Siput, where he urged voters to choose “wisely” and re-elect Harapan candidate S Kesavan, whom he said had an excellent track record in the constituency.

“Only Harapan can fulfil the people’s trust and serve their economic and welfare agenda.

“Do not fall for the promises made by BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN), which had clearly failed to look after the people and the country. I plead to Malaysians of all races to give Harapan a chance to bring about changes to the country,” he told about 1,000 attendees.

Sungai Siput is set to witness a seven-cornered clash in GE15, including between Kesavan and MIC president SA Vigneswaran.

‘70 ministers, no eggs’

In Tapah, Anwar said he offered to be named Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate, not for his personal gain or his family or cronies, but to use his experience to ensure Malaysia’s return to excellence.

He lambasted ministers of the caretaker administration in the egg shortage issue.

“We have 70 ministers, but no development.

“Chicken prices are up, the prices of things are up, and there are no eggs. 70 ministers, but no eggs,” he quipped to about 500 attendees at a ceramah in Taman Permai, Tapah.

Tapah is a BN stronghold - the sole parliamentary seat that has not been lost by MIC. In GE15, three-term incumbent MP M Saravanan, who is also MIC deputy president, will be defending the seat.

Meaningless rhetoric

Anwar then spoke to about 1,000 voters in Bagan Datuk under the pouring rain.

“We did not ask for the election (to be held) as we want the existing government to function for the rakyat.

“We also note that this election is due to the continuing power manoeuvres in BN. And now, they are trying to cloud the people’s judgment by preaching stability. This is the meaningless rhetoric they have been spewing out,” said the Harapan candidate for the Tambun seat.

Anwar also held ceramahs in Kuala Kangsar and Padang Rengas.

It is learned that Anwar will return to Bagan Datuk on Friday - the eve of polling day on Saturday.

It is worth noting that Harapan has made Perak its frontline state in GE15.

The “silver state” will see 24 parliamentary and 59 state seats being contested on Saturday. - Mkini
