KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Hajiji Noor is confident that Perikatan Nasional chief Muhyiddin Yassin understands GRS’ decision to join the unity government formed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The decision came days after GRS had aligned itself with PN and supported Muhyiddin as the nominee to be prime minister.
Hajiji said today’s decision to back Anwar’s government was made by GRS after taking into account the benefits for Sabah.
“We think about the interests of Sabah, under GRS where we give priority to this state. I think Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) knows about this and he is smart. I think there is no problem, because this is our decision in GRS,” he said after the tabling of Sabah’s 2023 budget at the state assembly. Hajiji is Sabah’s chief minister.
At a press conference this morning, Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, had confirmed that GRS had joined his unity government, formed by PH, BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, GRS, Warisan and several East Malaysian MPs.
GRS is a coalition of Sabah Bersatu, STAR, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Usno.
Bersatu, SAPP and STAR are also part of PN led by Muhyiddin. - FMT
