My ties with PAS leaders are good, no rift in PN, says Muhyiddin

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said his ties with PAS were solid, with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang scheduled to campaign with him in Muar tonight.

PAGOH: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has rejected claims that the coalition is in turmoil after he reprimanded PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan for claiming that PN might collaborate with Barisan Nasional (BN) after the polls.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin rebuked Takiyuddin for the claim and said he had no mandate to hold discussions with BN about forming the next government.

Speaking after an event in Bukit Pasir here, Muhyiddin said that subsequent allegations that the rebuke had caused a rift in PN were without basis, adding that PN leaders have a solid relationship.

“There is no unrest in PN … Tonight, (PAS president) Abdul Hadi Awang and I will campaign in Muar,” said Muhyiddin, who is looking to get re-elected to the Pagoh seat.

“We have no problems. We are not like BN, which is divided and has issues such as grouses from candidates at not being chosen to contest.”

Earlier today, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that PAS, as a major party in PN, should have the right to express its own views and speak out about collaborations, including with other parties or coalitions, after GE15.

Muhyiddin said that Takiyuddin’s remarks about the possibility of BN and PN forming the next federal government were taken out of context.

He said both he and Hadi had since clarified the coalition’s position — that it was looking to win GE15 and form the government on its own.

“We have made it very clear we are contesting as PN and we have nothing to do with BN,” said Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president.

“If I say that PN wants to collaborate (with BN), people will ask what’s the point of supporting PN as I want to cooperate with Zahid (Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), so I’m stupid.”

Zahid is standing trial on 47 counts of money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving millions of ringgit from Yayasan Akalbudi and accepting bribes for various projects during his tenure as the home minister. - FMT
