Palace wants lists of MPs who can support majority govt by 2pm tomorrow

Istana Negara has been briefed by Election commission chief Abdul Ghani Salleh following the general election held yesterday which resulted in a hung Parliament and it is seeking to meet with political leaders who can form a government with majority support.

"We have accepted the results and the documents provided by Abdul Ghani which clearly state that no one party has attained a simple majority.

"Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has asked for the cooperation of Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun to appeal to the leaders of political parties and coalitions to negotiate among themselves and form a majority," said Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement today.

He said the king wants party leaders with large number of seats to inform Istana Negara of an agreed coalition to form the new government.

Party and coalition leaders have been asked to submit names of prime minister candidates to Istana Negara before 2pm tomorrow.

"The king's decision on the formation of a new government and the appointment of PM is final.

"The king advises the people and political party leaders to respect the democratic process and accept the GE15 results.

"The country needs a government that is stable and has credibility and integrity to ensure the well-being of the people and drive the prosperity agenda," added Ahmad Fadil. - Mkini
