Rafizi’s threat against MACC chief shows PH ready to abuse power, says Peja

Ahmad Faizal Azumu (left) says authorities should take action against Rafizi Ramli over his ‘threat’ to MACC chief Azam Baki.

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s warning that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will go after Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki if it wins the general election shows it is ready to abuse its powers, says Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

The Bersatu deputy president said Rafizi’s statement showed that PH’s leadership considered themselves to be above the law.

Rafizi’s threat was a public declaration that PH had plans to abuse its power by taking action against a civil servant who was only carrying out his duties, he said in a statement.

Faizal, better known as Peja, said such abuse of power was a serious crime under the Penal Code and the MACC Act, and would have a negative impact on all public servants who carry out their duties with honesty and without favour.

“Never in the history of this country has a leader from a large coalition like PH made public his intention to take revenge on a public servant through an abuse of power,” he said.

He urged PH’s top leadership as well as its prime ministerial candidate Anwar Ibrahim to state their stance over Rafizi’s statements.

“Are PH and Anwar ready to retract the threat against the MACC chief and apologise to all civil servants?” he asked.

Faizal also urged the authorities to take appropriate action against Rafizi’s threat.

Rafizi was quoted by the media as saying that PH would go after the MACC chief for alleged “political persecution” in raiding his company, Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd.

Rafizi alleged during a ceramah in Johor last night that the MACC raids on Invoke were done at the behest of Barisan Nasional to prevent him from making a parliamentary comeback through the general election.

“Tomorrow (Thursday) we will meet in court, the day after (Friday) is another day of campaigning, on Saturday we will vote.

“After we win the election, we will go and find Azam. I know Azam is watching this.

“I hope that when Harapan wins, and when we come to find you, you better not blame your brother again,” Malaysiakini quoted him as saying. - FMT
