PETALING JAYA: Potential lanthanide deposits up to 2,562,500 tonnes and worth about RM125 billion have been identified in three districts in Kelantan.
According to Bernama, energy and natural resources minister Takiyuddin Hassan said the deposits were detected in Tanah Merah, Jeli and Gua Musang.
He said a large amount of non-radioactive lanthanide was found in Aring, Gua Musang, spanning an area of 100,000 hectares, while deposits in Batu Melintang, in Jeli, and Tanah Merah covered 80,000 hectares and 25,000 hectares respectively.
“The standard operating procedure (SOP) to find lanthanide has been completed and the next process will be carried out after discussions with the state government. This includes a preparation of tender and issuance of permits before the mineral can be mined.
“The ministry will provide the necessary assistance and advice through the minerals and geoscience department,” Takiyuddin reportedly said. - FMT
