Tok Mat rubbishes claims he met PN leaders for possible alliance

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said he would surely have been involved in any discussions on a possible alliance with PN.

PETALING JAYA: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has brushed off claims that he met with leaders of Perikatan Nasional to discuss a possible alliance after the 15th general election.

Mohamad said he was unaware of any negotiations between leaders of his party and those of PAS and Bersatu as alleged by Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim.

“If it is as claimed I would have surely been involved (in such talks),” Mohamad, better known as Tok Mat, told FMT, adding that such claims were merely a campaign tactic.

Earlier today, Anwar was reported to have claimed that PAS and Bersatu leaders had met with several Umno leaders. PAS and Bersatu are part of PN.

Apart from Mohamad, PN leaders were alleged to have also met with Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer Hishammuddin Hussein.

FMT has contacted Hishammuddin for a response.

Anwar’s allegations came in the wake of a statement by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan about the possibility of BN and PN forming the next federal government.

According to Berita Harian, Takiyuddin said he was confident that PN would be able to form the government, whether on its own or with other parties, including BN. However, he had said, working with PH was not an option.

But after a rebuke from PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin that he did not give Takiyuddin the mandate to hold discussions with BN about forming the next government with PN, the latter clarified that his remark had been taken out of context. - FMT
