PETALING JAYA: Umno has postponed an emergency Supreme Council meeting slated for 3pm today.
In a statement, the party’s secretary-general, Ahmad Maslan, announced the postponement without mentioning any new date or reason.
He had called for a political bureau meeting and a Supreme Council meeting late last night as results from the ground were trickling in for the general election.
A meeting with Barisan Nasional’s (BN) top leadership has been scheduled for 8pm.
Several top leaders were spotted arriving at Umno’s headquarters for the political bureau meeting at noon today, including vice-president Khaled Nordin and Supreme Council members Ab Rauf Yusoh, Johari Ghani and Bung Moktar Radin.
No coalition won enough seats to form the government on its own although BN ended up with far fewer seats compared with rivals Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional.
It is understood that BN leaders will be discussing the way forward, including which coalition it will back to form the government. - FMT
