PETALING JAYA: Perak Perikatan Nasional chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu has mocked Umno’s decision to form the state government with Pakatan Harapan (PH), since it previously said it would not work with DAP or PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim.
“This confirms the rumours before the general election that Umno leaders were working to create a new coalition with PH in order to remain in power.
“I wonder what happened to the Umno general assembly’s ‘No Anwar, no DAP’ decision?” Faizal said in a statement, adding that Umno’s decision to form the Perak government with PH was a “recipe for disaster”.
He said Perak PN was adamant that it would be in the opposition if it cannot form the state government.
Faizal said PN will not work with PH because of DAP, describing it as a party rejected by the majority of Malays. He also said PN will not work with those tainted with corruption.
Earlier, PH and BN leaders met at the Seri Pacific hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Anwar confirmed that discussions were ongoing between the two coalitions on jointly forming the government.
During its annual general assembly in 2021, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said delegates affirmed the party’s decision to reject cooperating with PH and Bersatu in the general election.
“We are sticking with the Umno Supreme Council’s decision. No Bersatu, no Anwar, no DAP,” he said at the assembly in March last year. - FMT
