KUALA LUMPUR: PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said Pakatan Harapan (PH) has its Batu candidate P Prabakaran’s back following revelations that fellow party member Tian Chua has nominated himself for the same seat.
When asked if Tian Chua, former Batu MP, was still a member of PKR, Fahmi said he didn’t know.
“I don’t know, because it has only been about 12 hours (since nomination) and I haven’t had a chance to talk to the party’s leadership since we’ve been campaigning.
“For practical purposes our support is for Prabakaran in Batu. Whatever it is, Prabakaran for Batu,” he said after a ceramah in Lucky Garden here.
He said, however, to wait for an official announcement from PKR on Tian Chua’s membership.
Tian Chua filed his nomination papers today for the Batu parliamentary seat, which he will contest as an independent after having served as MP for two terms under Pakatan Rakyat and PH.
The former PKR vice-president was dropped by the party in favour of Prabakaran, who won the seat in 2018 when Tian Chua was disqualified from contesting. Prabakaran is seeking a second term.
PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli earlier today said the party will discuss Tian Chua’s decision to contest after the general election. PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has previously said that any party member who contests as an independent in GE15 would be sacked. - FMT
