Bera hit by flash floods, 8 families evacuated

KUANTAN: Flash floods hit two housing settlements in Bera early today forcing 18 people to be evacuated to a relief centre.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said heavy rain last night caused certain parts of Kampung Limau and Taman Maju Jaya in Kemayan, Bera to be inundated about 2.30am.

"Water entered some of the houses in the low lying areas forcing the residents to leave their homes. Eighteen people from eight families were moved to the Kemayan public hall.

"The weather has improved and the rain has stopped. If the water recedes later today, the victims will be allowed to clean their homes and return home," he said.

Bera was spared during the floods which hit several districts across Pahang last week where some 5,000 people were moved to relief centres. - NST
