The Health Ministry will hold a townhall session with a pressure group representing contract doctors working in public hospitals.
Health Minister Zaliha Mustafa (above) said on her social media accounts that the session will take place on Feb 22 at the ministry headquarters in Putrajaya.
This followed a statement by Hartal Doktor Kontrak that Zaliha had yet to engage healthcare workers working on contract for the public sector, more than two months after her appointment.
In contrast, Hartal Doktor Kontrak said, Zaliha's predecessor did so just 26 days after being appointed in 2021.
In 2021, Hartal Doktor Kontrak organised a nationwide strike to draw attention to the plight of doctors working on contract for public hospitals.
Contract doctors run the risk of having their contracts not renewed after their five-year tenure.
Their status also leads to fewer perks than their counterparts with permanent positions, including equal opportunity to further their career into specialisations. - Mkini
