The advice by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to cinemas in the state not to screen the movie "Tanda Putera" is a "narrow minded" move, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
The minister said only the Censorship Board could ban films in the country and the state governments should know better than to issue such advice.
"It is not the right of a state government to issue such advice. It just shows how narrow minded they are," he said before launching the Merdeka promotion at Pavilion mall in Kuala Lumpur today.
The controversial film has been criticised by DAP for a scene purportedly depicting a young Lim Kit Siang, DAP's adviser, urinating at a flagpole outside the residence of former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Harun Idris during the racial riots of May 13, 1969.
