DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang says he is shocked that former finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah has been attacked after leaving the government.
"What is... shocking was Husni’s revelation in his speech in Parliament that although he had been a loyal and professional minister, with a KPI 'among the best among ministers', he had been defamed and demonized by Umno cybertroopers in the social media after he had left the Cabinet," said Lim in a statement today.
Husni had been coy about the reason for his departure from the government in June but in an interview three month later revealed that he was under heavy stress due to the 1MDB scandal.
He had noted that even though he did not cause the scandal, he had been tasked to resolve it.
On Monday, when addressing Parliament, Husni for the first time publicly spoke out against the government's handling of 1MDB.
"My KPI (key performance index) is the best among the ministers - always above 100 percent.
"(As soon as) I quit, you see on social media - two days after I quit, they attacked me for no reason.
"I know who the 'A', 'B' and 'C' who attacked me. Why play this game? Let us love the rakyat. We work for the rakyat," said the Tambun MP.
In his speech, Husni highlighted a laundry list of issues that would expose Putrajaya to multi-billion ringgit losses due to the 1MDB issue.
However, Umno information chief Annuar Musa yesterday dismissed Husni's speech as "nothing new" and "loaded with assumptions".
Lim today asked if Annuar's reaction meant that Putrajaya was aware that it may lose billions in taxpayers' money.
"Is Annuar suggesting that Husni had made such a warning and asked these grave questions about the 1MDB scandal within the four walls of the government or Umno before he resigned as second finance minister?" said Lim.
Lim added that Annuar's reaction to Husni was in the same category as those who had attacked Husni on social media. -Mkini
