PETALING JAYA: Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has reminded the public of the need to be immunised against Covid-19, pointing out that most of today’s new cases were people who had not been vaccinated.
He said 92% of today’s new Covid-19 cases had no record of vaccination, while 97.9% of the 95 people in Category 5 (the most serious cases) were unvaccinated.
“Therefore, get vaccinated immediately so that you and your family are protected from the dangers of Covid-19 infections,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier today, health minister Adham Baba had said that almost 17% of the population had been immunised so far, while 36% or 11.8 million people had received the first dose of vaccine.
Noor Hisham gave figures for the vaccination rate among today’s new patients in other categories:
- 77 cases were in Category 4 (those needing extra oxygen), 85.7% of them unvaccinated;
- 83 cases in Category 3 (congested lungs), 67.5% of them unvaccinated;
- 7,045 cases in Category 2 (mild symptoms), 87.6% of them unvaccinated;
- 7,216 in Category 1 cases (no symptoms), 95.6% of whom had not received a vaccine jab.
Noor Hisham said a higher percentage of patients currently in hospital were those in Categories 3 to 5.
He said this was because most category 1 and 2 patients were being isolated at home after being identified as low-risk and meeting the requirements for suitable home quarantine. - FMT
