Activist quizzed over old FB post on PM's SOP compliance

Political activist Lawrence Jayaraj was questioned by officers from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for a Facebook post he made in April about Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) on Covid-19.

Lawrence (above) said the Facebook page was from April 2, in which he posted photographs of Muhyiddin having a meal with a group of people and asked if he was complying with the SOP.

"According to them, it's fake news... The report against me was made by the Home Ministry," he said in a Facebook post.

Lawrence, who is the husband of Sarawak PKR Wanita chief Agnes Padan, said three police officers from the Lawas District police headquarters and three MCMC officers from Kuching showed up at his home in Lawas.

He said he was later asked to present himself at the Lawas District police headquarters, where he was questioned and his mobile phone seized.

The country was placed under the conditional and recovery movement control orders (CMCO, RMCO) in April, where dine-in was allowed, but with a limited number of people per table.

Lawrence expressed concern that the officers from Kuching had travelled across Covid-19 red zones.

"I will hold (Communications and Multimedia Minister) Saifuddin Abdullah personally responsible if my family and I exposed to Covid-19 because of this investigation," he said.  -Mkini
