Covid-19 situation in Labuan improving, says Annuar

About 80% of adults on the island are expected to be fully vaccinated by the end of the month.

PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 situation in Labuan is improving with active cases on the island expected to drop to 700 in the coming week, says federal territories minister Annuar Musa.

In a statement, Annuar said cases in Labuan had been on a downward trend and the infectivity rate had dropped from over 2.0 in May to 0.86 as of July 8.

He also said 57,243 (83.57%) of the adults in Labuan had received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose and that 80% of adults are expected to be fully vaccinated by the end of this month.

Previously, a surge in Covid-19 infections saw Labuan recording 8,922 cases. This was attributed to the Delta variant, which was first detected there on April 23.

To curb the spread of the virus, Annuar said various measures were taken, including putting Labuan under an enhanced movement control order, carrying out mandatory testing and quarantine, conducting targeted sanitisation exercises, setting up a field hospital and increasing surveillance, health and enforcement measures.

“I wish to remind the people of Labuan to adhere to the new norms, SOPs and movement control order rules to protect themselves and their loved ones,” he said. = FMT
