FT minister expects normalcy by August due to high vaccination rate

The Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan are expected to see normalcy in August, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

This was because a large number of people in these two areas have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccines, he told reporters in Bandar Tun Razak, according to Utusan Malaysia.

"God willing, by the end of this month, 80 percent of the population in Kuala Lumpur and Labuan would have received two doses," he said.

"I hope that those who have received two doses will be able to move freely and that it is safe for them to go back to work, pray at the mosque, exercise outdoors and do other activities."

He urged those living in the Federal Territories to be patient as the return to normalcy will happen in stages.

As of last night, the Special Committee on Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply reported that 100 percent of adult Kuala Lumpur residents have registered for vaccination while 61 percent have received their first dose.

Kuala Lumpur proper is estimated to have a population of two million.

As for Labuan, the registration rate has reached 84.8 percent while 35.7 percent have received their first dose.

Labuan has been particularly hard hit by the Delta variant in recent weeks and has received priority in the vaccination programme. - Mkini
