Fugitive wanted for Bill Kayong’s murder arrested after six years

A suspect wanted by the police for the murder of the native customary rights activist Bill Kayong is now in police custody after six years on the run.

According to DayakDaily, the 26-year-old suspect Koong Siang Ming @ Batu Ming has flown from Kuala Lumpur today and touched down at Miri International Airport at around 1.55pm, and then held at Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.

The report claimed Koong was believed to be hiding in China before authorities there detained and deported him to Malaysia over an expired passport.

Kayong (above), who was also the Miri PKR branch secretary, was shot dead in his pickup truck at a traffic light intersection on June 21, 2016. He was 43.

A club bouncer Mohamad Fitri Pauz had been sentenced to death in 2018 for the murder.

Meanwhile, Stephen Lee Chee Kiang, Chin Wui Ching, and Lie Chang Loon had been acquitted of abetting Fitri to commit the crime after the prosecution failed to show prima facie evidence linking them to the offence. - Mkini
