Govt looking at allowing travel, dine-in for those fully vaccinated - PM

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today said the government is mulling relaxing Covid-19 restrictions for individuals who are fully vaccinated.

He said the move which could include allowing people to travel or dine-in at restaurants, was part of the national recovery plan as daily vaccination rates continue to increase.

"I’ve asked the vaccine committee to reconsider (restrictions) on those who have received two vaccine doses, for them to be given certain leeways.

"This could be for travel or to dine-in restaurants as a sign for us to show that while we battle with Covid-19, we can gradually return to normal life," he said during a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Muhyiddin also called for patience as the national recovery plan is set to be implemented until the end of the year.

"So let’s be patient. Be confident that we can win this war," he added.

Muhyiddin earlier reportedly received contributions worth RM16 million from five corporate companies for the Prihatin food basket programme at the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry in Putrajaya.

Also present at the event was Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun.

Muhyiddin also described the national vaccination programme as a "light at the end of the tunnel" in the ongoing battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

After a slow start, Malaysia has ramped up daily vaccinations up to 421,000 doses administered yesterday.

"Now, our focus is the greater Klang Valley. Through our targeted measures, we can deal with the Covid-19 infections better.

“We hope that our vaccine supplies will also continue increasing this month and next, so we can keep to our projection of completing the recovery plan by the end of the year," the prime minister said.

Khairy Jamaluddin, who is the minister coordinating the vaccination efforts, previously said the government will be coming out with guidelines for fully vaccinated people next month.

He added that the government had taken a cautious approach against the spread of the Delta variant which is highly contagious, associated with outbreaks in India, the UK and Australia. - Mkini
