Hadi voyages into space to denounce Covid-19 situation critics

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang launched a scathing broadside against those politicising the Covid-19 situation and accusing the government of failing to contain the pandemic.

Pointing out that not a single nation has succeeded in curbing the spread of the virus, he also noted the emergence of more infectious variants.

Without mincing words, the veteran politician said those who hurled such accusations are “mad with politicking”.

Shooting for the stars with his criticism, Hadi (above) said these people “appeared to be dwelling on another planet and not on earth.”

Apart from referring to the unfulfilled promises in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto with regard to the last general election, he attributed the detractors' actions to “political greed and thirst for power.”

“They still wish to claim that problems can be resolved in the blink of an eye, to the point that they are willing to merempuh (crash) the most challenging situation faced by the frontliners.

“The frontliners are working tirelessly by taking preventive measures, especially increasing the number of vaccinations to save the people...,” he added in a Facebook post this afternoon.

Employing a more terrestrial analogy, the PAS president also censured the “ungrateful” attitude of certain quarters.

“Like a blind person who scolds the individual who helps him to cross a busy road. Instead of being thankful to those who help them, they resort to verbal abuse, as if devoid of common sense.

“Those who are abused will receive free pahala (reward from God) and those who abuse will accumulate sins with ease.

“If unfortunate, they (those who abuse) will face legal action, incurring losses in this life and in the afterlife if they do not apologise or repent,” he added.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin

During challenging times, Hadi said it is incumbent on all to play a role to fix the situation together and set aside personal and other interests.

“This is where it is important to safeguard the harmony and consensus achieved to diffuse the tension and create political stability in the country.

“Islam also forbids believers from giving up,” he added.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his government, which stormed into power with the support of PAS, Umno and Sarawak parties through a political coup in 2020, has come under increasing pressure following the sharp rise in Covid-19 cases.

On July 8, the Umno supreme council announced that the party is withdrawing its support for Muhyiddin and demanded that he steps aside to allow the appointment of an interim premier.

A day later, a Bloomberg columnist claimed that the nation, which had once punched above its weight, is now staggering down the road to failed statehood.  - Mkini
