KJ: New PPVs, increased capacity for 130k jabs a day in Selangor

Minister in charge of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) Khairy Jamaluddin has assured that Selangor can achieve the target of administering 130,000 vaccine doses a day in July.

“We are opening seven new vaccine dispensation centres (PPVs) which will start operating today, and apart from the seven, which can do more than 20,000 doses a day, we are increasing the capacities of mega PPVs by almost double,” he said.

Khairy was speaking during a joint press conference with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba in Putrajaya today.

He was replying to a question on how the government intends to achieve its target of administering 130,000 doses a day in Selangor for the month of July.

The state's vaccine rollout has come under scrutiny recently as it continues to record the highest number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the country.

As of July 3, the state has only fully vaccinated 5.2 percent of its population against Covid-19, falling to the last place behind other states.

According to data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), Selangor administered an average of 46,467 doses per day in the last 14 days.

The state government has also announced its own vaccination programme, called the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), and aims to have 80 percent of the adult population in the state fully vaccinated by October this year.

Khairy said the CITF and the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office are currently in discussions about the implementation of the Selvax program as the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV) has decided only one type of digital vaccine certificate will be issued.

“The decision from the JKJAV is that there should only be one digital certificate and that is the one issued by the Health Ministry (in the MySejahtera app).

“For that reason, (Selvax) must be consistent with what the Health Ministry uses, only then can we issue digital certificates. There cannot be any other digital certificates other than the one in the MySejahtera app.

“This is important because we need to ensure the integrity of the vaccines. Even if they buy from a private supplier, we have to ensure the cold chain from (the manufacturer) all the way to the PPV and to the recipient is in order and safe,” Khairy said. - Mkini
