Health Minister Dr Adham Baba has announced a slew of reinforcements for Covid-19 care in the Klang Valley following reports that the coping ability of hospitals there are on the brink of collapse.
The improvements include setting up more intensive care unit (ICU) beds, field hospitals, oxygen tanks and low-risk treatment centres.
Healthcare workers from other states will also be mobilised to facilities in the Klang Valley which are facing tremendous pressure due to the Covid-19 wave.
Below, Malaysiakini lists the reinforcements announced for individual hospitals and facilities:
Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang (Selangor)
A total of RM1.1 million worth of supplies will be given. This includes 60 beds and additional equipment that the ministry did not specify. The military will also help set up a field hospital with 50 beds.
This came after the hospital set up canvas beds outside the building of its Emergency Department.
A hospital source previously told Malaysiakini that as many as 150 Covid-19 patients were waiting for a spot in the Emergency Department at one point. Videos of the packed condition of the department also circulated on social media in recent days.

MAEPS Serdang (Selangor)
To focus on treating Category 3 and Category 4 patients.
A total of 118 healthcare workers have been mobilised to be stationed at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). Of that number, 75 are medical officers, paramedics and drivers from Kedah, Perak and Terengganu. The other 43 are medical officers from Klang Valley hospitals. They will be placed here temporarily for a period of between one and six months.
The ministry said more healthcare workers from other areas are set to be sent here. A total of 1,550 oxygen cylinders will also be supplied. This includes 1,000 1.4m3 cylinders, 400 6.8m3 cylinders and 150 0.7m3 cylinders.
The ministry will also be buying oxygen supply as well as 300 oxygen concentrators. It will further perform testing and commissioning for 30 new oxygen concentrators.
Adham said that the 154 Category 4 beds in MAEPS were insufficient while beds for Category 1, 2 and 3 patients were almost fully utilised.

He said the facility received an average of 800 patients per day of which a quarter (200) were Category 4 patients.
UPM Teaching Hospital, Serdang (Selangor)
Eight ICU beds and 45 normal beds will be added so that Category 4 and Category 5 Covid-19 patients from MAEPS can be urgently moved here.
Health Ministry Training Institute, ILKKM, Sungai Buloh (Selangor)
Reopened with 2,400 beds so that Category 1 and 2 patients from MAEPS can be moved here.
Ampang Hospital (Selangor)
Twenty ICU beds will be added to this designated Covid-19 hospital.
Health news website CodeBlue previously reported that the hospital has been receiving high numbers of Category 4 patients from MAEPS up to 120 in one day.

ATM Tuanku Mizan Hospital, Wangsa Maju (Kuala Lumpur)
Mobilised to treat Category 3 and 4 patients.
Other reinforcements
The ministry said it will also mobilise volunteers from bodies like the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to help take care of children with Covid-19 whose parents were hospitalised for the same disease.
It will further work with the private sector including private hospitals and employers to set up more Low-risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) and Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CAC). - Mkini
