ALOR SETAR: The Kedah menteri besar today said a news report claiming that he would neither recognise nor help those who raised the white flag was a “spin” by a news outlet.
Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said he had merely urged those in trouble to call special emergency hotlines set up in all districts in Kedah instead of putting up white flags.
He said those who call will get an immediate supply of necessities.
“No need to raise white flags, just call for help. There is a lot of spin, and the headline itself is propaganda,” he said referring to Malay Mail’s report titled: “Report: Kedah MB says won’t help those who raise white flag for help, cites propaganda against govt”.
In the story, which was based on an Utusan Malaysia report, the portal claimed that Sanusi had said only those who requested for help through the Disaster Control Operation Centre (PKOB) would be given food aid throughout the current lockdown.
Speaking to FMT, Sanusi clarified that there are PKOBs set up in all 12 districts of the state to render assistance.
He also described the white flag movement, a campaign that was launched on social media earlier this week, as a form of political propaganda that was aimed at tarnishing the good work of the federal government.
He claimed that these white flags could have been planted by opposition parties for other reasons.
“I have seen pictures of opposition MPs helping people put up white flags at their homes. But for what? Better for the MP to bring food baskets to the homes (of those in need) rather than to help them put up white flags.
“Is this not political propaganda? No need for white flags. You can call us or WhatsApp your state assemblyman’s service centre,” he told FMT.
Sanusi said at his own hometown of Sik, he has given out some 200 food baskets with necessities every day, besides the PKOB in the district handing out another 100 baskets daily. - FMT
