PAS and Sarawak's GPS coalition have announced their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who is under siege by Umno.
In a statement, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang assured the party's undivided support for the prime minister and he chastised attempts to cause political instability.
"PAS is disappointed by any action that can threaten the country's political stability especially when the government is striving to tackle health and economic crises," he said today.
Last night, the Umno supreme council decided to retract support for Muhyiddin with calls for him to resign.
Nevertheless, it is understood that Umno MPs have been given the discretion to decide whether or not to back the prime minister in Parliament.
PAS was previously a strong ally of Umno but has since drifted over to Muhyiddin's Bersatu.
In April, amid attacks against Muhyiddin, Hadi and other PAS leaders attacked Umno saying the latter had strayed from their Muafakat Nasional pact.

Meanwhile, GPS secretary-general Alexander Nanta Linggi said now was not the time to cause political instability.
"It is time for the government to be stable, to concentrate on the important things, that is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic," he was quoted as saying by the Malaysian Insight.
He added the appointment of Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob as deputy prime minister and Sembron MP Hishammuddin Hussein as senior minister should have led to more stability.
“However, it has ignited a tussle within Umno,” he said.
GPS parties were formerly allies with Umno under BN.
However, the Sarawak parties quit and formed their own coalition after BN was defeated in the 2018 general election.
Besides PAS and GPS, Umno's BN partners - MIC and MCA - are also backing Muhyiddin.
