PMO refutes claim Muhyiddin meeting Agong after Umno pulls support

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has refuted claims that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will be meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

This follows Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's announcement that his party was withdrawing support for Muhyiddin.

The PMO, responding to multiple reports about the purported meeting, said they were "fake news".

To date, the Agong had yet to indicate that he will intervene in the political upheaval.

It does not appear that Muhyiddin will step down without a fight.

Attorney-General Idrus Harun earlier today declared it was unclear if Muhyiddin had lost the confidence of a majority of MPs.

He said this was because Muhyiddin's majority must be determined by MPs and not a party statement.

Umno has 38 MPs but many are opposed to Zahid's move to withdraw from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

However, with Muhyiddin only commanding a four-seat majority, a small number of the 38 MPs is enough to see the PN government toppled.
