Private Covid-19 assessment centre opens in PJ to take load off Stadium Malawati

A private Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) opened in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, yesterday to help ease the load faced by the sole Petaling District CAC in Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam.

This follows reports of long queues spilling onto the surrounding roads at Stadium Malawati, where limited staff attend to at least 2,000 patients a day.

The private CAC, located at 5A, Jalan 51/217, off Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya, operates from Tuesdays to Fridays from 9am to 7pm, including public holidays. The private CAC is closed on Mondays.

It has a capacity of 300 patients a day and charges patients an administrative fee of RM60 and RM20 a day for home surveillance.

This means those in home quarantine and requiring 10 days of surveillance would pay RM260 per person.

Among others, the CAC will assess those who tested positive for Covid-19 to see if they need to be referred to a quarantine centre, hospital or can be quarantined at home.

It can also release those who have come to the end of their quarantine period from the home surveillance order.

Those seeking to use the service must first register through the Selangkah mobile application or via this online form and follow these guidelines.

Besides the private CAC, more than 500 GP clinics are also allowed to issue home surveillance orders.

However, they can only do so for patients who tested positive for Covid-19 at the respective clinic.

This includes 52 clinics in Selangor (below).

Images shared online by those using the private CAC far contrasts the crowded scenes at Stadium Malawati.

Earlier, the Health Ministry caught flak for denying photographs of long queues leading to the CAC and the crowded conditions inside the stadium.

Photos of similar conditions at the Sri Andalas CAC also circulated on social media, raising public alarm as the Sri Andalas CAC is located in the middle of a housing estate.

On Wednesday, the ministry said the situations at Stadium Malawati and the Sri Andalas CAC are under control and that any risk of Covid-19 transmission to residents living near the Sri Andalas CAC is minimal.

Selangor CACs are overwhelmed as the number of Covid-19 infected people in the state continues to climb. Today, 5,512 cases were reported in Selangor, the most nationwide.

Experts earlier suggested a revision of the CAC strategy, proposing instead virtual assessment systems and call centres to help assess and monitor patients remotely. - Mkini
