KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will host the Malaysia Day celebration this year.

Deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin said this was decided at a virtual meeting by the Malaysia Day main committee chaired by communications and multimedia minister Saifuddin Abdullah last night.

Bung, who is also the state-level committee organising joint chairman, said the celebrations themed Malaysia Prihatin, will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre here on Sept 16.

He said the theme is aimed at urging Malaysians regardless of race and religion to come together to fight the pandemic.

“On behalf of the state Cabinet, we are grateful for the federal government’s decision for the trust and respect given to Sabah to once again organise this programme,” he said in a statement.

He said the event will be held according to strict SOPs.

“The celebration will be at a closed venue, with attendance limited to 500 people. But it will still depend on the Covid-19 situation then in the state,” he said.

The programme will include a tahlil ceremony, choir presentation, cake cutting, performances by local artistes and a video montage presentation. - FMT
