KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands of people turned up on the streets of the capital today in solidarity with the Palestinians and the latest conflict with Israel that has been raging for the past year.
They showed up in support of a rally titled
, held a year after the incursion into Israel launched by Hamas and Palestinian nationalists on Oct 7, 2023.Himpunan 1 Tahun Taufan Al Aqsa (One Year after the Al-Aqsa Storm)
They proceeded from the As-Syakirin Mosque to the US embassy on Jalan Tun Razak, waving the Palestinian flag, carrying placards and shouting slogans for Palestine’s freedom.
Politicians present at the rally included PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, his deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
Also seen were Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, activist Hishamuddin Rais and Tian Chua from the Palestinian Solidarity Secretariat.
When met by reporters, Hadi said PAS will continue to speak against the oppression of Palestinians and pressure the US government to stop sending weapons to Israel.
He said despite the government and opposition’s political differences, they both agreed in refusing to recognise Israel as a country. - FMT
