The Kuala Lumpur High Court has postponed an auction scheduled for tomorrow at the home of Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos, pending the disposal of last-minute applications filed by his son.
The auction had been fixed for Feb 11 to sell 14 items seized on Jan 28 to recover RM66,061.85 in outstanding legal costs owed to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
However, Kok’s lawyer Sankara Nair said the court postponed the auction after Jamal’s son filed interpleader and stay applications yesterday.
An interpleader application is a legal process disputing ownership of seized items.
“The auction fixed for tomorrow has been put on hold until the hearing of the applications,” Sankara told reporters today.
The lawyer said Jamal (above) had claimed that the seized items did not belong to him but to his son.
Sankara added that the court has yet to fix a hearing date for the applications.
Defaming Teresa
In April 2017, Kok filed a defamation suit against Jamal, who led the Umno-linked “red shirts” group, over statements he made during a press conference concerning Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor funds.
Kok alleged that Jamal had implied she misappropriated state government funds for personal gain and portrayed her as unethical.

In July 2022, the High Court awarded Kok RM300,000 in damages and ordered Jamal to pay RM50,000 in legal costs.
Two years later, the Court of Appeal dismissed Jamal’s appeal and again directed him to pay RM50,000 in costs.
On March 29, 2023, a different Court of Appeal panel allowed Jamal to defer payment of the RM300,000 damages, but ordered him to deposit the sum with Kok’s law firm pending the outcome of his Federal Court appeal.
On July 30, 2024, the Federal Court rejected Jamal’s application for leave to appeal, ruling that it did not meet the threshold under Section 96 of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964.
Previously, Jamal told reporters that he planned to auction several pairs of his slippers and shoes to pay Kok.
He said this when met at his house on Jan 28, after police and court officials forced entry into his home in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
