'Sesat' J-Kom DG needs guiding light

YOURSAY | “The more he speaks, the messier it gets.”

Not racist: J-Kom chief says 'Cina sesat' aimed at Albert, See-To

Dr Peter Jebaseelan Jesudason: This is the standard Machiavellian style of governance.

Appoint a new person to give the impression of change, only to realise his purpose is to maintain or even promote the Malay supremacist narrative.

So, according to Community Communications Department (J-Kom) director-general Hisyamuddin Ghazali, calling businessperson Albert Tei "Cina sesat" (lost Chinese) is not racist because it is directed at an individual and not at his race in general.

Well, only Hisyamuddin thinks it is not racist to invoke the race of Tei when criticising him.

Many would regard Hisyamuddin to be stupid for having such a mindset, given that his position is to be ever vigilant for racist or religiously bigoted views expressed in the media.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander, so it follows that Hisyamuddin would not regard it as racist if he were called "Melayu bodoh" (stupid Malay). Suffice to say, most would regard it as racist.

Knucklehead2: Mr Communications Specialist, there is a world of difference between calling Eric See-To and Tei sesat versus branding them “Cina sesat”.

The moment you dragged in “Cina,” you weren’t just naming individuals - you pulled in an entire race. That’s not just sloppy; that’s racist.

If you can’t grasp this most basic principle of communication, you have no business being a “communications specialist.” Step down immediately.

Your training clearly reflects your past - reporting to an unelected, not‑so‑bright home minister. No wonder you’re lost.

The next general election will be your reckoning. All will be eliminated.

Mari Bersama kita tolak PKR! (Let us together reject PKR!)

Hmmm: If a village idiot were to call his enemies Cina or Melayu or whatever race sesat and then explain that he only meant it directly for certain persons, most people would be bound to accept his explanation.

But from the head of J-Kom? A supposed expert in communications?

He apologised for any misunderstanding that his statement may have created, but in the same breath, he threatened to sue anybody who twists his statement.

You have basically admitted that your statement can be misunderstood, so how do you prove that people have twisted your statement? This is just how some people understood your statement.

Koel: Can Hisyamuddin handle a job that involves mass communication?

He demonstrates a lack of basic knowledge of what that means. This style of messaging is typical of rabble-rousing tactics.

If his message raises hackles in certain quarters, whether for ill-judged discriminatory remarks or misinterpreted due to poor construction of the message, the responsibility is on him.

Listen, Hisyamuddin, nobody twisted your message. You chose inflammatory language unsuitable for public communication.

Such languaging is petty, racist and unprofessional. If you are sticking with this job, own your mistake and apologise to the community that is aggrieved.

Otherwise, step down before you do further damage to this government and the PKR that is already on a downward trajectory.

GP2025: Whether directed at one person or the entire community, those terms are racist and considered insensitive to not just one race but all races.

If you can say such things of one race, then it means you can say such things to any race.

If you don’t understand this, you are not qualified for the position.

Apparently, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has limited choices. What happens when you don’t have the support of the majority?

Salvage Malaysia: The more he speaks, the messier it gets. “Cina sesat” is already a racist statement. It doesn’t need to be the community.

You can call them orang sesat (lost person), insan sesat (lost individual), and then it doesn’t sound racist. We are all rakyat Malaysia. - Mkini
