Selangor health dept refutes manpower claims; Khaled: Norway procurement ban justified

Healthcare

  • The Selangor Health Department said there are 32 medical officers (MO) at the Tengku Ampuan Rahiman Klang Hospital (HTAR), as opposed to the 20 a CodeBlue article claimed two days ago.

The portal published anonymous views purportedly from the hospital’s MOs on July 7, in which the officers claimed that the hospital's surgical department is on the brink of collapse due to a severe lack of manpower.

Responding to the article, the state’s health department said in a statement today that the total number of officers would differ at times due to postings and transfer arrangements.

However, the department added that HTAR is expected to receive an intake of new permanent MOs in August, and that the hospital remains committed to continuously monitoring workload across departments in reorganising its workforce in line with current needs.

Defence

  • Defence Minister Khaled Nordin said the cabinet decision yesterday to stop all defence procurement from Norway is justified, following Oslo’s decision to scuttle the Naval Strike Missile deal.

He said the cabinet also considered whether the ban should apply to other ministries, but it decided only the Defence Ministry for now.

“Once existing contracts involving Norway expire, the government may no longer engage Norwegian companies or renew those contracts.

“This is an appropriate and justified course of action because Norway has shown a lack of respect towards our country. I hope the public understands and supports this decision,” Bernama quoted him as saying. - Mkini
