Pearly-Thinaah settle for bronze at Asian Games

Women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah had to settle for bronze at the Asian Games, losing to China’s world No 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning in a hard-fought 85-minute semi-final.

Their achievement ended Malaysia’s 12-year wait for a women’s doubles pair to win a medal – a feat last accomplished by Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei who secured bronze at the 2014 games in Incheon, South Korea.

World No 5 Pearly-Thinaah started off brilliantly and took the first game, but the Chinese pair came back strongly to win 16-21, 22-20, 21-12 at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan. - FMT
