280 Titiwangsa students receive RM1,000 education aid

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 280 tertiary students from the Titiwangsa parliamentary constituency have received RM1,000 each in financial assistance to help meet their educational needs.

The assistance was presented by Titiwangsa member of parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani today.

Johari, who is also Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, said the annual assistance was aimed at helping students from low-income families pursue higher education.

He said the programme had been running since 2013, with this year's aid going to students who had newly enrolled at institutions of higher learning.

"If we want to break the cycle of poverty from one generation to the next, we cannot overlook the importance of a good education, whether at the primary, secondary or tertiary level.

"Education is very important and if we can place greater emphasis on education, it can change everything, provided it is pursued with determination," he said after the event.

On the decision to provide cash assistance instead of laptops, Johari said the approach gave students the flexibility to use the money according to their individual educational needs.

Newly enrolled Maritime Management student at Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Marine Engineering Technology in Lumut, Muhammad Zikrullah Husaini Zuber Putera, 24, said the assistance would help ease his parents' financial burden in purchasing a new laptop for his studies.

"I want to buy a new laptop and I am grateful that the assistance will, to some extent, ease the burden on my parents," he said.

Luqmanul Hakim Daswarman, 24, who is pursuing a Business Administration programme at UniKL Business School, said he planned to save the money before using it to purchase a new laptop.

"This assistance is very helpful and I am grateful to receive RM1,000. I may save the money first before using it to buy a new laptop," he said.

Nor Nadhira Abd Hadi, 32, who is pursuing Psychology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, said the assistance would help cover part of her tuition fees.

"I will use the money to pay my tuition fees. At least it can help cover some of the costs," she said.

Earlier, Johari also visited and officiated the Malurians Fun Day Carnival 2026 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Maluri here.

During the visit, he spent time engaging with the Maluri community through various activities organised for the event. - NST
