The agency will resume taking the former Felda chairman’s statements once he has recovered, says MACC chief Abd Halim Aman.
Halim said sessions had been scheduled over the past two days to record Isa’s statements at Sungai Buloh prison, but they had to be put on hold while he undergoes medical treatment.
“We will resume taking his statements once we receive clearance from prison authorities that he has recovered,” he told a press conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.
On a separate case, Halim said the Attorney-General’s Chambers had given its consent for MACC to prosecute two former senior executives linked to Felda’s Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project.
He said a former CEO of Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) would be charged at the magistrates’ court on Sept 29 with two counts of cheating under Section 417 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, a former Felda director-general would be charged with one count of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code on Sept 30.
The KLVC prosecution follows a series of arrests and statements recorded by MACC under Op Fella, targeting investment transactions and asset acquisitions made by Felda and FIC between 2010 and 2020.
Regarding another ongoing investigation, Halim said MACC had completed its probe into alleged irregularities and misappropriation surrounding the distribution of flood relief and fertiliser supplies to padi farmers in Kedah.
He said the investigation paper had been submitted to the AGC by MACC deputy public prosecutors, with recommendations to charge two persons involved in the scheme under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for submitting false claims.
“If the attorney-general consents to our recommendations, the charges are expected to be registered in court either next week or the week after,” he said. - FMT
