MACC orders Saravanan, family to declare assets

 MACC chief Abd Halim Aman says a notice will be served on the former minister and his family on Monday.

On Aug 28, former human resources minister M Saravanan pleaded not guilty to three charges of receiving RM1.097 million in bribes in connection with foreign worker quotas about four years ago.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will serve former human resources minister M Saravanan, his wife and three children a notice requiring them to declare their assets.

MACC chief Abd Halim Aman said the notice will be served on Monday.

“Saravanan and his family will be given 30 days to declare their assets,” he told reporters after attending the 5th National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference 2026, here today.

Halim said MACC took into account that one of Saravanan’s sons is studying in London and would be given ample time to declare their assets.

He also said Saravanan and his family had been notified of the matter.

On Aug 28, Saravanan, the MIC deputy president, claimed trial to three charges of receiving bribes totalling RM1.097 million in connection with foreign worker quotas about four years ago.

Last week, MACC ordered former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his family to declare their assets.

Azeez had earlier this month claimed trial on a charge of abusing his position to obtain gratification in the form of a chairmanship and other perks in another company. - FMT
