PN suspension won’t affect BN’s Melaka polls plans, says Saravanan

 MIC deputy president M Saravanan says BN is capable of contesting the Melaka polls on its own, citing its strong performance at the recent Negeri Sembilan and Johor elections.

Perikatan Nasional’s suspension will not affect Barisan Nasional’s preparations for the Melaka state election, says MIC deputy president M Saravanan.

Saravanan said BN was capable of contesting the state polls on its own, citing its performance in the recent state elections in Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

“BN is independent. If we look at (the results in) Negeri Sembilan and Johor, they prove that the people are longing for BN.

“As mentioned by the BN chairman (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) previously, we will go solo,” he was quoted as saying by Kosmo.

The Registrar of Societies suspended all PN activities effective Sept 23 after issuing the coalition a notice seeking an explanation over a complaint lodged by Bersatu.

RoS said the suspension was not a decision to deregister PN. The coalition has been given 30 days to respond to the notice.

The development came shortly after the Melaka state legislative assembly was dissolved on Wednesday, paving the way for the state election.

Melaka BN chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh said on Tuesday the coalition had yet to decide whether to contest the election on its own or form an alliance with other parties.

Rauf had previously said BN would consider offers from parties interested in becoming strategic partners, while negotiations would only begin after the dissolution of the assembly.

In the 2021 Melaka election, BN won 21 of the 28 seats, while Pakatan Harapan won five and PN two. - FMT
