Flash floods briefly hit UM campus amid new students' registration [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) was briefly affected by flash floods following heavy rain in the capital this afternoon.

Water was seen in front of the university campus around 5.15pm, according to a video shared on social media.

The incident occurred as new undergraduate students began reporting for residential college registration today.

UM's Student Affairs Department had earlier announced that physical registration and reporting for residential college accommodation for new students would begin on Sept 26.

The university is also scheduled to hold its Week of Welcome (UM-WOW) from Sept 28 to Oct 2, subject to changes.

A UM spokesperson confirmed to the New Straits Times that the floodwaters had receded and the situation on campus had returned to normal.

Earlier, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage's Infobanjir portal reported alert-level readings at three monitoring stations in Segambut and one in Batu as of 5.30pm.

Several areas, including Damansara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Segambut, Kajang, Bangi, Bandar Seri Putra and Bukit Mahkota, were also affected by flash floods and rising floodwaters. - NST
