KUALA LUMPUR: A school canteen worker's simple act of kindness towards a student from a financially struggling family has touched Malaysians after her gesture was shared on social media.

According to a Threads post by user @kalaivanirajagopal, the boy would often spend recess sitting behind the computer lab, sometimes without anything to eat.

That changed when the canteen worker, known as Kak Zira, noticed him and began giving him free food every day.

During the school's Cooperative Day, she went a step further by giving the boy money so he could buy something and enjoy the celebration with his friends.

"If it's not enough, come and see me," Kak Zira told him.

Kalaivani said the gesture was a powerful reminder that kindness did not need recognition.

"She didn't see his background. She simply saw a little boy who deserved to eat, to be happy and to feel included.

"Sometimes, the most beautiful lessons about unity aren't taught in classrooms. They happen quietly, through little acts of kindness that leave the biggest impact.

"This is the Malaysia I am proud of," said Kalaivani.

The heartwarming post drew praise from netizens, with many applauding Kak Zira for helping the boy without making him feel different or embarrassed.
