Stop manipulating facts, academic tells ‘4 undangs’

An academic and a senior lawyer have hit out at Undang of Johol Muhammed Abdullah and three others claiming to be chieftans of Sungei Ujong, Jelebu and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan for insisting they had exclusive powers to appoint and remove the state’s ruler.

Faizal Musa, better known as Faisal Tehrani, urged the four individuals to “stop manipulating facts and trying to exploit customary practices for power”.

He also challenged the claims of Mubarak Dohak and Maarof Mat Arshad to the positions of Undang of Sungei Ujong and Jelebu, respectively, pointing out that both had already been dismissed earlier this year.

“Their reasoning is irrelevant. They should just accept their fate and move on,” he told FMT.

Earlier today, the four men and the Tunku Besar of Tampin Tunku Syed Razman Syed Idrus Al-Qadri issued a strong statement warning Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the attorney-general not to interfere in the state’s affairs, particularly matters concerning their purported constitutional prerogatives.

They claimed that Articles 10 and 11 of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution 1959 vested them with exclusive powers to appoint and remove the state’s ruler.

The fourth man, Abdul Rahim Yasin, who claims to be the Undang of Rembau, was never officially appointed to the position.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer Rosli Dahlan described the four men’s statement as “astonishing and unprecedented in form and substance”.

“This not only heightens the constitutional crisis in Negeri Sembilan but also affects national security and public safety, as the whole nation has been brought into alarm and confusion,” he told FMT when contacted.

He urged the federal government to be firm with “these anarchists” for the sake of law and order, public safety and national security. - FMT
