Party president Wee Ka Siong says they reached an agreement following discussions with Barisan Nasional leaders, including coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong said the party reached an agreement following discussions with Barisan Nasional leaders, including coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting at MCA headquarters today, Wee thanked everyone involved in finding a resolution.
“We’re like siblings in BN. We help each other out, and we have a long history.
“We need to strengthen our collaboration and, more importantly, win as many seats as possible in the Melaka polls,” he said.
On Saturday, MCA leaders, led by Wee, staged a walkout when BN unveiled its candidates for the state election because they were unhappy that seats it previously contested were allocated to other parties without proper consultation.
MCA previously held Kelebang and Machap Jaya in the Melaka state assembly after contesting seven seats in the 2021 state election, including Ayer Keroh, Kesidang, Kota Laksamana, Bandar Hilir and Bemban.
Elaborating on his meeting with Zahid, Wee said he was encouraged that the Umno president understood MCA’s stance that the Chinese community should not be ignored.
He also said Zahid assured him that the Chinese community would be represented in the state government if BN won.
“We also agreed that it is important for BN component parties, especially Umno and MCA, to maintain a close relationship,” he said.
Yesterday, Wee had said it was “premature” for Zahid to state that there was a positive outcome from Monday’s discussion between his party and the coalition’s leaders as an agreement had yet to be reached. - FMT
