The deputy prime minister says Malaysia can help Lebanon to rebuild infrastructure and provide humanitarian assistance as well as defence cooperation.

He said the friendship between the two countries should continue through cooperation to help the Lebanese people rebuild their lives, regain hope for the future and achieve lasting peace.
Malaysia’s efforts could include rebuilding infrastructure and local economies, providing humanitarian assistance, offering technical and vocational education and training, and strengthening defence cooperation.
“Malaysia and Lebanon share a special friendship, particularly through Malaysia’s involvement in UN peacekeeping operations through the Malaysian Battalion since 2007. For nearly two decades, our peacekeepers have played an important role in supporting peace and stability in southern Lebanon,” he said here today while on a working visit to Turkey.
Malaysia’s peacekeeping mission ends in January 2027, following the termination of mandate of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon at the end of this year.
Zahid had earlier met with his Lebanese counterpart Tarek Mitri. He also met the secretary-general of the Developing Eight (D8) grouping comprising Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Egypt and Nigeria. - FMT
