Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is known for his choice words to describe his opponents but today, he appeared to employ a form of strategic ambiguity.
This evening, a photograph depicting two chief ministers, five menteris besar and Najib was uploaded to the premier's social media accounts.
Everyone appeared to be in a jovial mood in the photograph, which is believed to have been snapped at the sidelines of the Conference of Rulers.
The odd one out was a smiling Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, who was the only non-BN leader present.
Najib's accompanying caption read: "Senyum ada makna tu" (There lies meaning behind the smile).
A few hours later, Azmin responded with a tweet of his own, with lyrics from Nat King Cole's 1954 rendition of "Smile".

Take action, what's the use of sighing? 😎 https://t.co/BTAIfVC9uK
Some netizens jokingly said that Azmin was smiling because he had to ask Najib for a "donation".

A significant number of social media users believed the smile could be summarised in just two letters: "UG".
"UG" referred to "unity government", which was once heavily associated with a certain faction within PAS during the Pakatan Rakyat era.

However, many social media users chose not to read too much into politics and were glad that political rivals were still capable of smiling at each other.
But for the most part, many social media users replied to the photograph with the Malay phrase "senyum tu sedekah", which could loosely translate as "smiling is an act of kindness".
