Even if PAS contested in the general election a hundred times, it would not be able to form the federal government, according to Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He claimed this is because PAS's sole intention is to ensure Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak wins the national polls.
In a three-cornered fight, the Pakatan Harapan chairperson reiterated that the Islamist party would play the role of a spoiler.
He said PAS candidates would vie for the support of those who are anti-BN and therefore decrease votes for Harapan's candidates.
“Even if PAS loses, it's fine for them. This is because their intention is for Najib to win.
“Why would PAS do this?” asked the former premier in a blog post.
“Does dedak (animal feed) play a role in this? Only God knows,” he added.
The term “dedak” is often used by the prime minister's detractors to accuse Najib of securing support through the dispensing of rewards be it financial, positions or titles.
Mahathir has repeatedly alleged that Najib subscribes to the mantra of “cash is king.”
PAS, on the other hand, has denied benefiting from Najib and sued whistleblower website Sarawak Report for claiming that the Islamist party received RM90 million from the prime minister's coffers.
The former premier's latest blog post was in response to PAS claiming that casting the ballot for Harapan is akin to voting for DAP.
“I don’t want to comment on this shallow view.
“If they continue to believe in this fairytale, it is impossible for PAS to see reality,” said Mahathir.
Mahathir also pointed out that PAS has never won an election at the federal level and labelled the party as a “nuisance” which splits and weakens Muslims.
PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi last month declared that a vote for Harapan would ultimately be a vote for DAP.
Khalil's statement came after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) strategist Rais Hussin equated a vote for PAS with a vote for Umno.- Mkini
