Nine arrested at protest against demolition of houses in Subang

PETALING JAYA: Nine people were arrested during a protest to stop three houses and two shoplots from being demolished near the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah airport in Subang on Wednesday.
Among them were five Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members, including PSM secretary-general A Sivarajan and PSM Youth chief Khalid Ismath. The others were four villagers.
All of them were taken to the Petaling Jaya District police headquarters as part of the investigations.

PSM committee member S. Arutchelvan said the houses, which were occupied by workers of the airport mosque, and the shops were eventually demolished by officers from the Selangor Land Office with the help of the police.
He said 17 people were chased away during the demolition and were now without a place to stay.
He claimed that there was no instruction from the Selangor Mentri Besar's office to stop the demolition although there were claims that the office had issued a stop-work order.
He said the issue had been brought to the attention of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali since November 2016.
He said that Sivarajan contacted Azmin's aide on Tuesday and was told the demolition would go on.
