The outgoing Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Huang Huikang has assured that his country does not intend to occupy land in Malaysia.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Huang said anyone with a conscience and respect for the facts will not accuse China-owned enterprises of trying to "grab" Malaysian jobs and "sell" Malaysia's sovereignty.
"Somebody raised a question in Parliament (recently) asking how much land has Malaysia sold to China. It is my responsibility to answer: Zero!
"If China wanted to grab land, they would have done it 600 years ago during Zheng He's voyages.
"Invading (other countries) is not part of Chinese genes. If you know our history, you will not accuse China of invasion or (of) grabbing the land of others, unlike Western powers.
"We have never done so. Never will," he said.
Huang said ongoing collaborations between the governments of China and Malaysia will yield mutually beneficial long-term results.
However, he noted that as the Malaysian general election draws near, such collaborative efforts will be misconstrued for political purposes.
"We are clear and consistent: China and Malaysia's friendly ties is built on equality and common good. We will sow the seeds now and reap the rewards in the future," he said.
Huang also applauded the Malaysian government's attitude towards Chinese-language education and stressed that Malaysia's diversified education system is a unique advantage.
In particular, he said Chinese-language education is increasingly being seen as important because China has made rapid advancements in technology.
"Malaysia's multi-stream education system, which includes Chinese-language education, makes Malaysia more competitive. It will be an advantage for the country's long-term development," he said.
He said Chinese industries appreciate that there are many trilingual Malaysians.- Mkini
