Penang calls for RCI on deadly bus crash

The Penang government has called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the deadly bus crash which killed eight passengers and injuring 33 others on Oct 24.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng told the federal government to form the RCI to probe the recent fatality, which occurred along the North-South Expressway, near the Juru toll booth on Tuesday.
He expressed his deep condolences on the tragedy, which happened after Penang was hit with a landslide in Tanjung Bungah which killed 11 workers on Oct 21.
"The RCI must obtain consent from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V," Lim said at a press conference in Komtar today.
"This is a serious accident, it is a horrific crash. The life of a local single mother from Parit Buntar, Perak was lost, together with seven other foreign workers."
He said this before presenting RM1,000 financial aid to Norasyikin Zuryanidufizan, 22, daughter of accident victim Noriah Kasa.
The buses were ferrying workers to the Sony factory in Prai and the Plexus factory in Bayan Lepas.
"State executive councillor on welfare Phee Boon Poh will liaise with the Perak welfare authorities on how to assist Noriah's family further. We will do what we can do to help this unfortunate family," said Lim.- Mkini
