PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that he may contest in Putrajaya in the next general election.
When asked by reporters at Pribumi’s headquarters on Wednesday to comment on reports of him contesting in Putrajaya, Dr Mahathir replied with a coy smile that he “may” contest.
“I may. I may. You can tell them I may contest,” he said, before walking away without commenting further.
There have calls for the former premier to contest in the 14th General Election.
He said recently that Langkawi or Putrajaya would be his preferred choice.
Dr Mahathir is currently the head of Pribumi Langkawi.
Both Langkawi and Putrajaya are currently held by Barisan Nasional.
In the 2013 general election, Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor won the Putrajaya seat with a 5,541 vote majority.
Langkawi was won by Nawawi Ahmad with an 11,861 vote majority.
