Traces of VX nerve agent found on Siti Aisyah, Doan’s clothes

aisyah-Doan-Thi-HuongSHAH ALAM: A chemist told the High Court today in the Kim Jong Nam murder trial that he found traces of VX nerve agent on Siti Aisyah and Doan Thi Huong’s clothes.
“I found VX nerve agent precursors on a ‘LOL’ shirt’s sleeve and Siti’s sleeve,” he said during the examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharudin Wan Ladin.
The “LOL” shirt was said to have been worn by Doan on Feb 13 when she allegedly approached Jong Nam in klia2 and sprayed VX nerve agent on him.
Images from CCTV recordings showing the alleged assassin of Jong Nam wearing a “LOL” shirt were published in the international media and the alleged assassin was named as “Miss LOL”.
Dr Raja also found VX nerve agent traces on Doan’s nails.
Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25, and Vietnamese Doan, 29, are standing trial on a charge of murdering the estranged half-brother of North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un on Feb 13.
Jong Nam, the eldest son of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, arrived in Malaysia on Feb 6, and was at the klia2 to board a 9am flight to Macau on the day he was killed.
He died on the way to Putrajaya Hospital, sparking a diplomatic row between Putrajaya and Pyongyang.
During the opening statement on Monday, the prosecution said it would prove that the two women approached Jong Nam at the airport’s departure hall and sprayed VX nerve agent on his eyes and face.
Prosecutors told the court the actions of Siti Aisyah and Doan showed they both intended to cause Jong Nam’s death.
Dr Raja said he also found traces of VX nerve agent on Jong Nam’s face, eyes, and on his bag and the blazer he wore.
Siti Aisyah’s lawyer, Gooi Soon Seng, told Justice Azmi Ariffin that he wanted to view the “LOL” shirt after the witness testified about the VX traces.
Wan Shaharudin said he had no objection for the defence lawyers to view the “LOL” shirt and compared it with pictures of the shirt tendered as evidence.
However, Dr Raja warned that viewing the shirt in an open space was dangerous as the VX nerve agent’s presence might be still active.
Justice Azmi said the court might consider Gooi’s request to view the “LOL” shirt in a ventilated environment at the chemistry department.
Dr Raja also said that airports in Malaysia did not have any device that could detect chemical weapons like VX nerve agent.
“VX nerve agent liquid may be taken into the country from North Korea in a water bottle, without being detected.
“We need the devices to detect VX nerve agent,” he said, when Wan Shaharudin asked if airports in Malaysia had the devices to detect VX nerve agent.
Dr Raja added he knew airports in the US and UK had the detecting devices for VX.
“The devices are AP2C, CAM camera and AP4C,” he said, in detailing the names.
The trial will continue before Justice Azmi on Oct 9. FMT
