Zairil quits FAP after poor results

Zairil Khir Johari has stepped down as Football Association of Penang (FAP) president following the club's poor performance at the ongoing Malaysia Super League.
The club is currently at the bottom of the table after 21 games played with one more game to go. The club will be relegated to the Malaysia Premier League next season.
Zairil, a former businessman and Bukit Bendera MP, was appointed FAP chairperson in February when the club was already the worst Super League team.
In June, he admitted to fourfourtwo.com that he has no football qualifications, aside from having played football management simulation game Championship Manager.
"Although my journey with FAP was short, I had to go through a lot... The management and I have tried the best we can.
"We brought a foreign coach with a good record.
When they didn't produce results, we replaced him with a local legend - Zainal Abidin Hassan.

"But luck was not on our side," said Zairil in a statement today.
Despite Penang FC's Super League troubles, Zairil said he was proud of the performance by Penang FC's under-16 and under-14 teams that were established during his tenure as FAP head.
"The under-16 team qualified for the semi-finals of the JSSL Singapore 7s while the under-14 team was second place at the Gothia Cup China.
"They are our future for Penang!" said Zairil.
Apart from the poor results of Penang FC, Zairil's short tenure as FAP president was also marred by death threats and the firebombing of the FAP headquarters.- Mkini
